The first time I heard the Beastie Boys it was in the headset of a friend’s walkman. I couldn’t believe the dirty lyrics of Paul Revere, but was immediately hooked by their Run DMC-like teamwork and rhythm. License to Ill was fun, though a bit juvenile, but as they continued to produce music I became a true fan. Paul’s Boutique remains one of my favorite albums with amazing tracks like Shake Your Rump and Egg Man. The Dust Brothers’ production played a role, and perhaps even helped the boys refine their style. Without fail, when I make a party playlist I’ll include at least 2 or 3 tracks from my boys. My heart was warmed recently when my niece and nephew danced like robots to Intergalactic.
