Genres are futile. But we like to put things into categories so we can keep them neat in our minds and on our shelves. Americana may be the most ridiculous genre of all. It has morphed from being a mostly country classification to now incorporating alt.country, indie folk, roots music, and plain old rock. Regardless of what you call it, I like it. The best of it blends elements of country, bluegrass, rock, and folk. That’s why we start the playlist with Bob Dylan—he is the epitome of Americana music. My Americana music is dominated by alt.country classics. Yours may have more straight country. Leave a comment with who you think should be in this mix.
